The Western Route (14 days)

Journey to the homeland of coffee and the wild and unknown West

This tour starts with an acclimatization day trip to Debre Libanos, before this journey takes us westwards to explore a touristy largely unspoilt part of Ethiopia. While in the Ethiopian highlands cultural landscapes dominate, the west offers wilderness with tropical forests, largely uncontacted tribes and flora and fauna which are distinctive from the rest of Ethiopia. After visiting a crater mountain, the road takes us to the region of Kaffa, the birthplace of coffee, into the reign of Surma and finally into fertile and wooded tropical Gambela. Due to the relatively touristy undiscovered area the accommodation in the west is rather simple. But on the other side this adventurous trip provides the experience of an unaffected and genuine Ethiopia.
